Match Report
Ellesmere College U14 vs  Abbey Gate College
On: Saturday, 13 Jan 2024
Venue: at Home

Good result against a team that kept playing hard until the end. After going 1-0 up, Ellesmere conceded a goal against the run of play thanks to a defensive misunderstanding, and the visitors added a second within two minutes of play restarting to unsettle the home team further. Some good passing gave Ellesmere opportunities in the final third of the pitch, and one good break saw Jesse Whale brought down by the goalkeeper; he converted from the penalty spot. All square at half time and everything to play for!

Now playing downhill, Ellesmere were able to outflank their opposition more regularly and the home side were able to add five further goals, including a long-range chip over the keeper’s head from Skye Thomas and a neatly-placed shot between a defender’s legs from Alex Poole. In the final minutes, the Abbeygate side claimed a goal back with a well-finished effort, the attacker taking the ball calmly and skilfully around the Ellesmere goalkeeper to score.

Player of the Match: Ellesmere keeper Raymond Leese, who made some excellent saves. Overall, a good result, impressive effort levels and an excellent attitude - well done.
